About this digital essay:
This essay is a multimodal presentation relating to current pedagogical issues, which, in many ways, are not dissimilar to those that have existed for eons and which have resulted in the publication of works such as “Books: Their history, art, power, glory, infamy and suffering according to their creators, friends and enemies” (Donaldson, 1981, cover).
Multimodal representation offers a choice of modes. The solution chosen needs to reflect rhetorical requirements of the end product in addition to the media involved. There are different possibilities: realising meaning mainly as writing, or mainly as image, as moving image, or as speech . The modality must be seen as an ensemble of connected parts, in comparison to the linear mode of a typical academic essay. (Kress, 2010, p. 93).
